2K kayak, 20 K bike, 5K run. This is the fourth annual Optimist Club Sprint Triathlon. This benefits The DeVine Foudation Cancer Fund. This year it is combined with the Edenton waterfront music festival on June 3, 2017. Race will encompass a 2K kayak paddle through the historic Edenton harbor starting from Queen Anne's park and returning to the park for the second leg which will be a 20 K bike ride through historic downtown Edenton and surrounding plantations. The third leg will also leave from Queen Annes park and proceed through historic Hayes plantation. The finish line will be again at Queen Annes park.
Registration is online and the evening prior to the race at Waterman's Grill downtown Edenton from 430 till seven. Same-day registration will begin at 6:30 AM at Queen Annes park.
On June 2 the evening prior to the race they will be a sunset paddle from 630 to 7 PM leaving Queenanne's Park. They'll be music and dancing from seven till 10 PM on Broad Street which is within walking distance of the park. Following the race there will be an awards ceremony, music and food vendors for your enjoyment.
Kayaks can be rented from the parks and recreation department for a nominal fee the morning of the race. Please contact the Edenton parks and recreation department to reserve your kayak. There are several very fine bed-and-breakfasts available that weekend. Please call early to ensure your reservations.
